Support the Construction of a Hospital in Haiti / Donate Unused Eye Glasses
Since 1998, Mission of Hope Haiti has been a place of refuge for Haitians. Haiti’s earthquake in 2010 left the country devastated and poverty stricken, with 1 million people still living in tents. Mission of Hope manages an orphanage of 60 children, a school that teaches 2400 children grades 1-12, a medical clinic, a dental office, and a prosthetics lab. Worship services for about 2000 people are conducted in a large, open air building each Sunday morning.
Mission of Hope’s current project is constructing a 90 bed, 3 ward hospital. Five Wichita Falls Rotary Club members who visited Haiti are looking to raise the $150,000.00 needed to complete the interior of the hospital. So far just over $60,000 (40% of the goal) has been raised from our community. We are looking to raise the remaining 60%. Any and all donations would be appreciated as well as life changing for the people in Haiti who will benefit from the medical care provided by the hospital. Contributions for the hospital (which are tax deductible) should be made payable to Rotary Foundation District 5790 and mailed to Benay Ayers at 4210 Kell Blvd., Ste. 212, Wichita Falls, Texas 76309.
Also, Rotarian Dr. Tom Sheriff, an optometrist, noticed that not a single student at the Mission of Hope school wore glasses (and not because they didn’t need them). If you would like to help, please donate your old glasses to this cause. There are three drop-points: Dr. Tom Sheriff’s office (next door to EyeMart) at 4206 Kemp Blvd, Wichita Falls, TX 76308; Benay Ayers’ office at 4210 Kell Blvd. #212, Wichita Falls, TX 76309 and Dan Campbell’s office at 4245 Kemp Blvd. #800. Wichita Falls, TX 76308. |
