Marilyn Rumsey, MSW, MPH, CEAP, is president and owner of Alternative Paths, Inc. For over twenty years, Alternative Paths has provided consulting services to companies of all sizes. Such services include; executive coaching; communication skills development, team building; managing change; conflict resolution and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). For over twenty-five years, Marilyn has provided psychotherapy specializing in marital, family and substance abuse problems. She is a national speaker and has done training, coaching and consulting in both the private and public sector around interpersonal employee and leadership concerns. She is also trained as a mediator.

Marilyn has been providing executive coaching, leadership and communication skills development, and team building to numerous companies, such as; BP, Alyeska Pipeline Service Corporation in Alaska, Texas Children’s Hospital, Smith Barney, Wisenberg Insurance, Worley-Parsons, US Postal Service and Anheuser-Busch. She also specializes in working with family-owned businesses around succession planning, leadership development, and the interpersonal dynamics related to the family and business overlap.

Marilyn has published numerous articles on innovative approaches to managing employees, including topics as; intervening with executives, approaching performance problems from a multi-level review, and critical incident debriefings. She was the principal author of Ethics in Workplace Counseling, a casebook published through the International EAP Association in conjunction with the Houston EAPA Ethics committee which she founded and chaired for almost twenty years.

Marilyn served as President and Vice-President and Secretary of the Houston Chapter of EAPA, a Commissioner of the Employee Assistance Commission of Certification (EACC) and Chairperson of the International EAPA Ethics Committee.

Marilyn is certified as a Birkman Method consultant, and is a Certified Coach from the International Association of Coaches (IAC).

In October, 2005 Marilyn was awarded the EAP Professional of the Year, through the EAPA association. It is the highest achievement award any member can obtain.

She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, her Masters in Social Work from the University of Houston, and her Masters in Public Health from The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.
