Description:
We bring resources, services, business partners, parents and volunteers into public schools across the United States. We meet children’s needs so they can concentrate on learning. We free teachers so they can teach, and we create a safe learning environment. Who We Are: Communities In Schools of Greater Wichita Falls (CISGWFA) is a Stay in School program. Through campus-based programs and special projects, CISGWFA creates a network of volunteers; social services, businesses, and community resources that work together to break down barriers and help students succeed. Who We Serve: CISGWFA targets students considered at-risk with issues in academics, behavior and/or attendance. This includes vulnerable populations such as students whose primary language at home is not English, teen parents, gang members, latch-key children, homeless students, students abusing drugs, and etc. This also includes students that have been retained in school, are failing or at risk of failing, and those that are in need of support for academic, behavioral, or attendance issues. How We Serve: CISGWFA prepares kids for life. We bring resources, services, business partners, parents and volunteers into public schools within our community. We meet children’s needs so they can concentrate on learning. We free teachers so they can teach, and we create a safe environment. CISGWFA is the connector bringing a team of caring adults’ right into the school building to help kids prepare for life. History In collaboration with North Texas Area United Way, Wichita Falls ISD was awarded a Communities In Schools Grant in 2006 to serve five secondary campuses in the Wichita Falls ISD. During its first year of infancy, a Board of Directors was formed, non-profit status was accomplished and staff members were hired, trained and on the campuses. CISGWFA in collaboration with the Wichita Falls ISD has been able to expand services to include after-school programming at two of its middle school sites. The after-school programs provide two hours of academics with one hour of enrichment. This has been able to benefit the students who are in need of a structured and safe environment which offers academic assistance and enrichment activities. |
